When I click on this, I tthought it might be referring to Makruk, which is Thai Chess.

Points are scored both by capturing (surrounding) enemy stones on all sides, and by surrounding as much empty space with your stones ("capturing territory"). Surrounding territory is usually the largest object of the game. "Fights" on the board and capturing are often to protect/gain territory more than to capture opponent stones.

it's true that is a totally different game, but we don't know if it's older than chaturanga (probably the oldest chess variation). Most likely these ancient board games have the same age :-)

baduk/go/weiqi is IN NO WAY a form of chess. The gameplay and the bord are completely different. It is also many thousands of years older.

Paduk is NOT an ancient form of chess.
