as for this song, its theme is "farewell to friends". so, sakura under the theme of "farewell to friends" reminds us of "farewell to japanese soldiers, who were considered kind of dying samurai, in the last war".

basically, it's just a guess. AFAIK, moriyama didn't say anything like that. historically, sakura has been appreciated extraordinarily by japanese. it's beautiful significantly when it's gone. it reminds us of samurai's life in which a beautiful death was appreciated. i think sakura has been loved as much as national flag and has been considered something special and something very japanese.

I love japan and japanese. I believe conscience of Japanese. But you guys who glorified war are not ones of them, I can say.Open your eyes. Innocent peole and children are dying from war even at this moment. Lastly, I really wish this song is simply about gradution or end of teenage. Really.

My favorite song. Very beautiful. Now, I have to say 'it used to be' before I read all of japanese posts on this page. Is it really true this song is dedicated to japanese war and soldiers? Is it your guess or did the singer say it himself? Hope it's former. Quite disappointing if latter. Very excuse me, but any war cannot be justfied. The war broke out by imperalism and destroyed whole Asia and asians. No difference from Nazi at the same age and Regan or Bush government in present.
