Good catch! That's what I thought. True that about Newmark's funk too. Bill Lordan would go on to straight out rock in Robin Trower's touring band -- also worth a listen. Nothing against first drummer Gregg Errico, but I always found Sly's later drummers (always white boys) to be funkier, more syncopated players from the James Brown school.

I knew it! that was Bill Lordan on drums, wasn't it? I wore out my old copy of 'Robin Trower Live' that he played on. The liner notes had mentioned his stint with Sly but I could never find recorded evidence.
