Please, the grim reaper bowling for souls.
You want people to take AIDS & HIV seriously...show them someone having a complete immune system breakdown. Show pics of people suffering from the most horrible results possible. This candy coated bullshit is ineffective. Kind of like drunk driving. People shouldnt be sheltered from the true results of their actions. They need to know what they are REALLY risking every time they do something dangerous, otherwise they have no concept of the consequences

Genius, i can imagine the controversy it would have caused in 1987. I still think the voice over was wrong - too many facts, it should have been silent with the ticking bought into the foreground. other than that just fabulous advertising

That ad was awesome!!!!

'' At first only gays and IV drug users were being killed by AIDS. ''
Oh my god. :P

This was such an incredible ad for the day. I was in grade 6 and I remember the next day everyone was talking about it, but I also remember many adults talking about it too. It was probably one of the first real "shock" ads that paved the way for the drink-driving, Quit, and other such ads we see today.
Watching it again today it's still quite powerful.

I totally agree and remember that 'iceberg don't die of ignorance' commerical back in the 80s. In the UK tha commerical didn't single out any group or individual....shocking that 23 yrs later, ignorance and discrimination is still very much out there!
