Agreed; but lets remember that the first Gundam show came out in 1979. People usually think in the technology of their era. Star Wars is a good example; to shoot lasers/steer at light speed, there's no way to manually do it. The human body is too slow to be able to react to such high speeds. The Eva-resemblance seems like a possibility, especially with the power cords. It would be a long time in before giant robots would be able to successfully run on internal power for more than 5 minutes.

Man,this is i want to wish come true,if the mobile suit's will use for the world war 3 i've think the japan will almost powerful technology of the mobile suit will be the best same,and i know this will be near in the future~!!! It cannot be impossible it~!!
